Groomsport Harbour Paddle Board Taster Sessions

As part of our Marine Safety Awareness Scheme, Ards and North Down Borough Council is delighted to deliver Paddle Boarding sessions at Groomsport Harbour. The sessions will be funded directly by income from the Slipway Permit System, meaning it is free for participants (+£5 booking fee ). The sessions will include important safety information when paddleboarding.

Come along and see what SUP is all about.

This taster session will teach you the essential safety, and paddling techniques from the beginning.

Knowing the basics will keep you safe and make your SUP experience much more enjoyable. 

What we get up to on the lesson;

• Learn to set up your board in the safest and correct way

• Safety Brief

• Learn about Wind speed and direction and how they affect the paddler

• How to Size and Hold your Paddle correctly

• Moving, turning and stopping your board

• Self Rescue

• Standing up with confidence

• Paddling in a straight line

• Have lots of fun

• Photographs of the session.

• Advice on next steps

• All equipment, including boards, paddles, wetsuits and Buoyancy aid.

This class is for 14 years old & older only.

Once the Session starts, our instructors will look after you and keep you safe. You can ask as many questions as you wish along the way.
